Webmaster tools.
These aren't submission directories, they're the search engine consoles that get your site crawled and indexed in the first place. Verify the core three, add regional ones only if you target that country, and set up IndexNow once instead of pinging each engine by hand.
Core search consoles
Verify your site with these first. Together they cover the large majority of global search traffic.
Google Search Console โ
Submit your sitemap, inspect URLs, and track indexing issues and Core Web Vitals.
Bing Webmaster Tools โ
Covers Bing, Yahoo, and DuckDuckGo, which all run on Bing's index, plus it feeds ChatGPT Search, Ecosia, Qwant, and Edge. Import your data from Google Search Console in one click, and set up IndexNow here too.
Yandex Webmaster โ
Worth adding if you get traffic from Russia or the CIS region.
Regional search engines
Only worth verifying if you target that country specifically.
Baidu Search Resource Platform โ
China's dominant search engine. Requires a Baidu account and Chinese phone verification.
Naver Search Advisor โ
South Korea's leading search engine, run under the name Search Advisor rather than Webmaster Tools.
Seznam Webmaster Tools โ
The Czech Republic's main search engine. Verification is quick.
Instant indexing
Ping every participating engine at once instead of submitting to each one by hand.
IndexNow (via Bing Webmaster Tools) โ
One protocol, one ping. Bing, Yandex, Seznam, Naver, and Yep all pick up new or updated URLs through it. Get your key under Settings, then IndexNow. Most SEO plugins and Cloudflare can auto-ping on your behalf once it's enabled.
Yep / Ahrefs Webmaster Tools โ
Yep is Ahrefs' own search engine and also runs on IndexNow. Free to verify, and it helps you get indexed there too.
Browsers and privacy search engines
Most of these don't take a submission at all, since they're powered by the engines above.
Brave Search โ
Brave doesn't have a full webmaster console. You can submit individual URLs here and Brave says they're typically crawled within one to three days. Brave also discovers pages through the opt-in Web Discovery Project, so real traffic from Brave users helps too.
DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, Qwant, Startpage, Swisscows โ
No consoles and no submission pages. These are Bing-powered or meta-search, so verifying in Bing Webmaster Tools already covers them.
Other verification and discovery tools
Not search engines, but they call themselves webmaster tools and help with discovery.
Pinterest domain claim โ
Under Settings, then Claimed accounts. Claim with an HTML tag or a DNS TXT record.
Google News Publisher Center โ
For sites that publish news content.
Bing PubHub โ
Bing's equivalent for news publishers.
Apple News and Applebot โ
Apple has no console, but you can verify your domain for Apple News and allow Applebot in robots.txt.
